ABOUT

Lorne’s work and life reflect a deep respect for the power of place – how our natural and constructed environments create our sense of identity.

Lorne Daniel was one of the first poets to emerge from the Canadian prairie poetry scene in the 1970s and published four collections. He also co-edited the seminal poetry journal Canada Goose and the anthology series Ride Off Any Horizon.

As a freelance writer, Lorne contributed reviews, op-eds and features for dozens of newspapers and magazines across Canada.

In an award-winning career as a communications and engagement consultant, Lorne Daniel earned a reputation as a big-picture thinker and urban leader.  His urban activism led him to found two organizations – Rethink Red Deer and Greater Victoria Placemaking Network – that continue to thrive and influence their respective cities.

In his writing, Lorne continues to explore how people and place interact.

He lives in Victoria, British Columbia, on the unceded territories of the lək̓ʷəŋən people. The lək̓ʷəŋən are also known as the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations and they speak the language lek̓ʷəŋiʔnəŋ.
